A destination on the rise; Uzbekistan

Looking for somewhere a little different for your next adventure? Uzbekistan might be just the place.

Located in the heart of Central Asia, this fascinating country is full of beautiful architecture, colourful markets and ancient cities that feel like stepping back in time.

Once an important part of the historic Silk Road, Uzbekistan is a destination where history, culture and everyday life come together.

From exploring impressive landmarks to trying traditional dishes, here’s why Uzbekistan deserves a spot on your travel bucket list.

1. the Beauty of Samarkand

If there’s one place that will make you reach for your camera, it’s Samarkand.

The city is home to the spectacular Registan Square, surrounded by three grand madrasahs covered in intricate patterns and beautiful blue tiles.

Another must-see is Shah-i-Zinda, a stunning collection of mausoleums decorated with colourful mosaics. It’s easy to spend hours wandering around and admiring the incredible detail.

Then there’s Khiva, where the ancient walled city of Itchan Kala is filled with narrow streets, beautiful courtyards and towering minarets. It almost feels like walking through a living museum.

3. Try Traditional Uzbek Food

Food is a big part of experiencing somewhere new, and Uzbekistan won’t disappoint.

One dish you should look out for is plov, a traditional rice dish made with carrots, onions and meat. You’ll also find freshly baked bread, grilled kebabs, pastries called samsa and plenty of delicious local treats.

For a real taste of everyday life, visit a traditional bazaar. Chorsu Bazaar in Tashkent is particularly worth exploring, with colourful displays of spices, dried fruits and local produce.

4. When Is the Best Time to Visit Uzbekistan?

Spring and autumn are generally the best times to visit, particularly if you’re planning to explore the historic cities.

April and May bring pleasant temperatures, while September and October are ideal for sightseeing, with warm days and cooler evenings.

Summer can get extremely hot, so it’s worth planning activities around the cooler parts of the day.

5. How Long Do You Need in Uzbekistan?

For a first visit, around 7–10 days is a good starting point.

A popular route takes you from Tashkent to Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, giving you time to experience some of the country’s most memorable places.

Travelling between the main cities is also relatively easy, with high-speed trains connecting several of the key destinations.
